     ff. 17-20    In the Star Chamber, 28 March 1587; a speech given by Sir
     Walter Mildmay at the sentencing of Mr. Secretary Davison for his role
     in the execution of Mary Queen of Scots.

     Paper, with watermark of a pot, similar to Bricquet 12743 (Moscow,
     1594). 20 ff. (foliated 160-179 in upper right corner); 295 x 200 mm.;
     1 column, 33-36 lines.

          Cursive script. Several poems have a heading in a large, bold
     gothic script. Unbound from a volume in which it had been bound by Dr.
     Cox Macroe.

          From the libraries of Sir Henry Spelman (1564-1641), Dr. Cox
     Macroe (1683-1767), and J. Hudson Gurney of Keswick Hall near Norwich.
     Sold by Sotheby's in the DeCoppet Sale (4 July 1955) via Dobell to
     James M. Osborn. Bequest of Mr. Osborn in 1976.

          Comments: Sir Nicholas Bacon is the father of Francis Bacon. Until
     recent times, his poetry was thought to have been lost, but in 1919
     Henry Daniel printed his edition of these poems from a manuscript in
     the possession of Rev. M. H. Marsden. One other manuscript of his poems
     is contained in the Huntingdon Library.
