Manuscript on paper, in a secretary hand, of an English translation of the
Catalan allegorical romance El Deseoso (1515). The manuscript, probably of
recusant origin, is untitled and anonymous, as is the "Proeme," which is written
in a different hand and precedes the text. ("Grete knowledge is certis a grete
shame.")
Annotation on verso of front flyleaf: "To Mr. R. P."
Annotation on blank p. 1 with several names, including "Barberye Gaile,"
"John Lasinby," "William Abbay," and "Robert Browne."
Annotation at head of blank p. 3: "Christus qui natus solus mea virgine
spes est/Solus qui natus spes est mea virgine Christus."
Colophon: "Laus deo. September 1 anno 1589."
Binding: contemporary vellum (top cover cut away), remains of one
leather tie. Fragment of liturgical manuscript used as binding guard.
