          William Smith (or Smyth), "An Allegory of Time," holograph poem,
     signed, consisting of 66 stanzas of 6 lines. England. ca 1600. Paper;
     18 ff. 195 x 146 mm.; 1 column, 12 lines (2 six line stanzas per page).

          I (2), II (8), III (4), IV (4, -4)

          Italic script. Capital M on the dedication page. Unbound.

          Sold by King of Blackwells to Winifred Myers, who placed it on
     sale at the Antiquarian Book Dealers Fair in London, where a dealer
     bought it for a relatively low price. It was evidently sold by him to
     Miss Hamill, though it may have passed through other hands as well.
     Purchased by James M. Osborn from Hamill and Barker, 1960. Bequest of
     Mr. Osborn in 1976.

          Comments: The poem is dedicated to an unknown lady, addressed only
     as Madam in the epistle. In the poem, Time comes to a Parliament of the
     creatures where he expounds his importance in the affairs of all
     things. F. 18v has an inscription with the date 1629.
