Breviary of the Franciscan Order.
Parchment, ff. i (paper) +v (parchment) +542 (at least 2 leaves missing;
parchment flyleaves foliated consecutive with text 1-549) +ii (parchment)
+i (paper), 122 x 93 (85 x 67) mm. 2 columns, 28 lines. Single vertical
bounding lines in lead. Ruled in dry point.
Binding too fragile for collation. No catchwords.
Written by several scribes in gothic bookhand.
15th century prayers and liturgical notes added on the flyleaves.
Ornate initials in red, blue, and violet.
Binding: Damaged 18th century brown leather over pasteboards, recovered in
paper. Red leather gilt label on spine reading: "Breviarum Manuscriptum".
Provenance: Note on front flyleaf, dated 27 May, 1853, "Don de M. Morel
che. de Bordeaux," with a brief description of the ms. Donated by Mr. and
Mrs. John L. Tyler, 1984.
