Unidentified treatise on rhetoric, beginning abruptly in prima pars of
the text, with the following headings: De uicio petitionis, De reprobando
uicioso dictamine, Notula doctrinalis,
Incipit secunda pars de omnibus regulis que faciunt ad artem utiliter
annotandis, Quid sit epistula, Quare epistula fuit inuenta, De partibus
epistule, Diffinicio salutationis, De his que considerantur in salutationibus.
Paper (coarse, brown; watermarks: unidentified human head?), ff. i (paper)
+ 6 (contemporary foliation, 1-6, in ink) + i (paper), 299 x 195 (189 x 115) mm.
Ca. 38 long lines; frame-ruled in lead. Remains of ptickings in upper, lower
and outer margins.
A single gathering of 6 leaves, with at least one bifolium missing in center
of quire; crudely stitched together.
Written in Italian notarial script.
Two initials, in black ink with simple penwork designs, also in black, for
preface, 7-line, and text, 10-line, on f. 1r; added later [?]. Guide-letters in
margins.
Binding: s. xx. Marbled paper wrapper.
Written in Italy in the first half of the 15th century; early modern provenance
unknown. Acquired from Guiseppe (Joseph) Martini by H. P. Kraus from whom
it was purchased in 1962 by S. Harrison Thomson. Acquired from Thomson in
1969 [?] as the gift of Edwin J. and Frederick W. Beinecke.
