Paper, ff. ii (paper) + i (contemporary paper flyleaf) + 76 + ii
(paper), 150 x 108 (102 x 63) mm. Written in 17 long lines; frame-ruled
in ink and lead with upper horizontal bounding line full across.
The binding is too tight to permit accurate collation.
Written in uptight informal batarde by a single scribe.
Ordinary blue initials, 2-line, on ff. 1r and 76r, with crude
penwork designs in red. Plain 1-line initials, paragraph marks,
headings, and letter strokes, as well as some corrections, in red.
Binding: s. xvi-xvii. Wooden boards, slightly cut in at the fore-
edge for two catches on the upper cover and covered in brown calf,
blind-tooled in a curvilinear design, are probably early. The rest of
the stab-sewn, rebacked binding obviously is not. Upper board detached,
fastenings wanting.
Written probably in Southern Germany in the second half of the
15th century; early provenance unknown. Unidentified paper tag on front
cover "17069"; note with the contents in an unidentified hand (s. xix)
pasted inside front cover. Purchased from Robert F. Metzdorf in 1956
with funds from the William Lyon Phelps Memorial.
secundo folio: die sundt
Bibliography: Faye and Bond, p. 42, no. 219.
