Paper (unidentified watermarks in gutter), ff. iii (paper) + 89 +
ii (paper), 203 x 143 (129 x 82) mm. Written in 25 long lines; single
vertical bounding lines. Ruled in lead for vertical lines, ink for
horizontal; prickings in lower margins.
I-IV^^16, V^^24 ( + 1 tipped in at end, f. 89). Catchwords in center
of lower margin; leaf signatures in lower right corner, on recto (a 1,
a 2, etc.).
Written in round humanistic script for ff. 1r, 89v, running
titles, and chapter headings; in humanistic cursive for ff. 1v-4v, and
in a style in between the two for ff. 4v-89r.
Plain initials, in bright red, mark text divisions; headings and
running titles, in dull red, throughout.
Binding: s. xix. Dark purple calf, gold- and blind-tooled.
Written in Italy in the 15th century; early provenance unknown.
Sold by Leighton (Cat. II, 9 [ca. 1925] no. 300); notice pasted on f.
ii recto of J. T. Adams sale (London, 7 Dec. 1931, no. 64); Dobell (The
Ingatherer, no. 22, Feb. 1932, no. 6). Unidentified rectangular tag
with "73" inside front cover. Belonged to David Wagstaff (bookplate);
gift of Mrs. David Wagstaff in 1944.
