Lxviiij, by original scribe; 1-72, modern hand), 142 x 100 (82 x 61)
mm. Written in 16 long lines; single vertical bounding lines, full
across; lightly ruled in ink.
I-X^^8. Catchwords perpendicular to text along inner bounding line,
accompanied by lateral embellishments.
Written by a single scribe in a fine round humanistic script.
Space left for initial on f. 1r; headings, small initials, and
entries for table of contents, in red.
Binding: s. xviii-xix. Vellum case. Fine paste paper flyleaves and
pastedowns.
Written in Italy at the end of the 15th century; early provenance
unknown. Belonged to the Rev. Walter Sneyd (booklabel; T. Phillipps,
Catalogus manuscriptorum Magnae Britanniae [Middle Hill, 1850] p. 15,
no. 215) who may have acquired it from Abate Matteo Luigi Canonici.
Collection of C. F. G. R. Schwerdt (bookplate; see catalogue Hunting
Hawking Shooting [London, 1928] v. 2, p. 346); his sale (Sotheby's, 12
March 1946, no. 2233) to Goldschmidt's, from whom it was acquired by
David Wagstaff (bookplate). Gift of Mr. and Mrs. David Wagstaff in
1946.
