This material is open for research.
Manuscript, on parchment, in a single professional hand, containing the scribal copy
of a judicial inquiry, recorded by Gonzalo Gonzales de Vega, public notary and scribe
to King Fernando of Aragon and Sicily. The lawsuits originated in a conflict between
Gil Gomes and the city of Avila with the neighboring villages over boundary lines,
pasture land, stone-pine forests, and mountain estates.

Layout: single columns of 29-32 lines.
Script: cursive chancellery script.
Decoration: public notary's initials at the bottom of every folio. Some pen flourishing
and decorated initials at the start of Latin texts; five two-line initials in red
ink with purple penwork; two four-line initials in gold leaf with elaborate purple
penwork.
Binding: contemporary full green sheepskin over pasteboards; remains of ties.
Written on upper board: 1372. Notario de Auila.
