Manuscript document, on vellum, in a single hand, of a bull granting papal protection
and privileges to the abbey of Saints Lorenzo and Nicola in L'Aquila. Among the privileges
granted to the abbey are the right to continue as a Damianite house in the Benedictine
order; the right to receive all "free and absolved" candidates into the house; freedom
from diocesan charges for the administration of sacraments or for consecration of
churches; and the right to continue to celebrate the divine office, with restrictions,
during general interdictions. The bull also confirms all privileges already conferred
on the abbey by the bishop of L'Aquila, including exemption from episcopal jurisdiction
in return for an annual gift of a pound of wax on the feast of St. Maximus.
