Beinecke MS 99 Germany, s. XVI/XVII
Valentin von Eickstedt, Pommersche Chronik, etc.
1. ff. 1r-458r Von etlichen vornemen Steten in Pommern Vineta. Vor
alters dein etliche grosse kund...Vnnd also ist hie mit de kurstliche
[for kurfuerstliche?] leich Procession geschlossen werden. f. 458v
blank, except for later notes.
The order of the contents is as follows: descriptions of some
cities of Pomerania, genealogy of the Dukes of Pomerania, the Chronicle
proper. Written by Valentin von Eickstedt in 1574; contents correspond
closely to those listed in W. Lubuik (Baltische Studien v. 3, part 1
[Stettin, 1835] pp. 80-81), but the Beinecke codex has fewer articles.
Von Eickstedt (1527-79) usually worked from the same sources as Thomas
Kantzow (d. 1542?), author of a chronicle on Pomeranian church history
(G. Gaebel, ed., Pomerania, Eine pommersche Chronik aus dem sechzehnten
Jahrhundert [Stettin, 1908] 2 vols.). The arrangement of the material
in the two chronicles is similar, and there is some paraphrasing, but
the Beinecke manuscript contains no dedicatory epistle and uses some
different material at the beginning.
2. f. 459r blank; ff. 459r-524v [Colorful and elaborate title page
occupies ff. 459v-460r, written sidewise:] Ex mandato illustrissimi
