dubbio (signor illustrissimo) che era la uarita [sic] delle cose create
dal sommo Fattore...supplicandola ni tanto a seruirsi di me, si come di
fedel, humile, et obligatissimo seruitore...Seruitor humilissimo.

I-II] Poiche, o Ludouico Principe illustrissimo, la benignita tua mi ha
inuitato a seguir...della famiglia ha hauuto l'origine dal fonte della

3. ff. 46r-81v Trattato delle uirtu et operationi ciuili della
Nobilta produttrici. Se da gli antichi la uirtu cotanto pregiata si
degni et nobili effetti...li nobili amatori del publico bene, uiuendone
in pace, et tranquillita, si conseruera lungamente felice.
Paper (watermarks: unidentified angel similar to Briquet 662, but
with BFF as countermark), ff. 82 (foliation begins on 2), 215 x 162
(176 x 111) mm. Written in 22-25 long lines; frame-ruled in hard point,
often with double outer vertical bounding lines.
I^^78, II^^5 (1 is front pastedown; structure of 2-5 uncertain).
Catchwords for each folio at bottom of written space.
Written in a calligraphic italic script by Bernardo Gandino of
Treviso, with frequent corrections.
Binding: s. xix-xx. Paper case with decorated paper sides.
Bookblock detached.
Written in Italy, presumably by Bernardo Gandino of Treviso, at the
end of the sixteenth or beginning of the seventeenth century; early
provenance unknown. Belonged to James Luce Kingsley (1778-1852;
signatures on front and back covers). Acquired by Yale in 1853.
