Aristotelis Traducidos originalmente de lengua griega Por Pedro Simon
Abril.
2. ff. 1r-10v [Dedicatory epistle to King Philip II, 1527-98:] A la
S. C. R. M. de el Rey Dn. Phelipe nuestro senor Pedro Simon Abril,
profesor de letras humanas, y philosophia...que con tanta razon tiene
entre los doctos de tantos anos a esta parte ganada y adquirida.
3. ff. 10v-30v [Prologue to the translation followed by summary of
Book I:] Prologo de el interprete al letor en el qual se le declara el
modo...las riquezas por la felicidad que se cree o espera hallar en las
riquezas.
4. ff. 30v-545r [Translation of Aristotle, Ethica:] Qualquier ante,
y qualquier doctrina, y asi mismo toda accion, y eleccion parece que a
algun...[end is mutilated:] comenzandolo a tratar*** a manera. ** in
[?] de los X. libros morales. f. 545v blank
Paper (thin; unidentified watermarks concealed in gutter), ff. vii
(paper) + 546 (foliation should begin on vii, which is part of the
first quire) + iv (paper), 201 x 145 mm. The physical format of the
codex varies considerably, with 14-26 long lines per page; bounding
lines (when present) in hard point.
The codex is too tightly bound to be collated.
Written by a single scribe in elegant italic script.
Many folios at end are stained and repaired; some text lost.
Binding: s. xix. Brown mottled calf, gold- and blind-tooled, by B.
Miyar (note on f. i recto).
Written in Spain in the 17th century; early provenance unknown.
Belonged to Diego del Monte, Madrid (inscription with date 1852 on f. i
verso). Acquired by Yale in 1888.
