          Xenophon, Hiero.

          In this manuscript the treatises are not identified, nor is the
     translator, but the dedicatory epistles to Niccolo Niccoli serve to
     indicate both author and translator.

          Parchment, ff. ii (parchment) + 90 + ii (parchment), 202 x 128
     (127 x 79) mm. Written in 21 long lines, ruled in brown crayon; single
     bounding lines, full across; prickings along upper, lower, and outer
     edges for bounding lines only.
          I^^4, II-IX^^10, X^^6. Horizontal catchwords on lower right-hand edge
     of verso, between bounding line and gutter.
          Written in humanistic script by a single scribe.
          No headings or ornamentation; the manuscript was apparently never
     finished.
          Binding: s. xix. Straight-grained black goatskin, gold-tooled.

          Written in Italy [?] in the first half of the 15th century; early
     provenance unknown. Library files indicate that the manuscript was no.
     42 in a Rodd catalogue; we have not been able to verify this. Abate
	Luigi Celotti sale (Evans, London, 14 March 1825, no. 235) to Payne and
	Foss for Sir Thomas Phillipps (stamps on ff. i and ii with double entry:
	963 and 2738); his sale (London, 1899, no. 383) to Lovering; V. G.
     Simkhovitch collection; sale by Anderson's (New York, 14 Dec. 1903, no.
     398) to N. T. Bacon. Presented in 1926 by Leonard Bacon and Susan Bacon
     Keith in memory of their father Nathaniel Terry Bacon.
